Revive the Spirituals!
"Singin' the ol' tunes in the ol'-fashioned way"

The Schiller Institute is conducting a national campaign to revive the Negro Spirituals. The LaRouche Jubilee Quartet is spearheading this effort in the Philadelphia area, and sings these beautiful songs in four part harmony in churches, senior centers, at parties and for other appropriate occasions. The quartet, in turn, is part of a larger chorus, the LaRouche Jubilee Singers, which is open to the community, and which rehearses regularly at our office. Our chorus will hold a concert in January, 2002, along with the famous baritone and America's Cultural Ambassador William Warfield.

Our quartet and chorus are named in honor of the American statesman Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr., LaRouche, who has the most accurate forecasting track-record of any economist alive. He forecast that by the end of the year 2001, unless war were to break out,the international financial and monetary system will have collapsed. We are presently plunging downward, worldwide, into a new Terrible Depression, much worse, in fact, than that of the thirties.

The solution to this catastrophe is a Franklin Roosevelt-style economic recovery program, which Mr. LaRouche has laid out in detail, and which now enjoys support from a growing number of legislators within our own country, as well as governments around the world. The danger, however, is that the American people would go from a condition of self-delusion, to a state of despair – threatening thereby to create conditions similar to those which occurred in Germany, which enabled Hitler to come to power.

With that in mind, then, the great beauty, nobility and passion, which the Spirituals embody, are a deep well of inspiration from which we can draw, and which can give people the determination to overcome, no matter what they're faced with.

We cannot revive ourselves politically, unless we revive ourselves culturally. The last thirty-five years of American history, since the advent of the rock-drug-sex counterculture, have amounted to an ever-deepening cultural Dark Age. By reviving the Negro Spiritual - the greatest classical art-treasure produced in the history of North America - we intend to launch a Renaissance in American culture.

We are greatly honored to have the coaching of Sylvia Olden Lee, America's foremost living expert in the performance of the Spirituals. We honor the tradition of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, and seek to follow in their footsteps.

The Schiller Institute was founded by Helga LaRouche, wife of Lyndon LaRouche, and is named after the great Friedrich Schiller, the "Poet of Freedom". All of Schiller's plays, poems and essays were dedicated to the cause of true political freedom, which he asserted could only come about through the moral and aesthetic education of the people, by employing the powerful weapons of great classical culture to morally uplift people. Schiller’s concept of a “beautiful soul” as the key to true freedom, and which rests in the belief that every human being is created in the image and likeness of God, is as relevant today as it was during Schiller’s lifetime, which overlapped the American Revolution.
